Support for Decision Making

What it is

Everyone has the right to make their own decisions.

Sometimes you may need support to make a decision.

Support could be:

  • more time

  • information that you understand

  • a person to assist you.

We can provide a person to assist you to make your own decisions.

All Advocacy also includes Supported Decision Making.

How it works

An Advocate meets with the person who requires support.

The Advocate supports the person to:

  • make a specific decision

  • develop their decision making skills

  • find other supporters.

The support will look different for every person.

The Advocate will make a record of the support they gave.

To receive Support for Decision Making you must:

  • Be an adult

  • Require support to make decisions

  • Not have other independent supporters.
