Ongoing Advocacy

How it works

An Advocate meets with the person who requires support.

They form a relationship of trust.

The Advocate supports the person to:

  • make decisions

  • say what is important to them

  • improve their health

  • improve their wellbeing.

This relationship can last as long as needed.

PASAT used to provide advocacy for a lifetime.

PASAT stopped lifetime advocacy in 2024.

What it costs

One hour of advocacy costs $80 excluding GST.

Good advocacy takes time.

We recommend at least 12 hours of advocacy a year.

How to pay

At the end of the year PASAT will count the number of hours of advocacy that were given.

Then PASAT will make an invoice for you.

An invoice is a bill you must pay.

You can also pay PASAT for advocacy before it happens.

When you do this PASAT will put the money in a Discretionary Trust.

A Discretionary Trust is:

  • safe

  • legal

  • a way to protect money

You can use a Discretionary Trust to pay in advance for as much advocacy as you like.
