Safeguarding Adults Response
How it works

PASAT has a Safeguarding service.

Safeguarding means:
-
promoting rights
-
promoting wellbeing
-
protecting from harm
-
protecting from abuse
-
protecting from neglect

The safeguarding service is for:
-
disabled people
-
tāngata whaikaha Māori

The safeguarding service is not for:
-
children younger than 18
-
older adults older than 65

It is not for emergencies. Call 111 in an emergency.

The safeguarding service is for when there has been a concern of:
-
harm
-
abuse
-
neglect

A person called a safeguarding coordinator will help.

The safeguarding coordinator will work with other professionals to improve safety.

The safeguarding coordinator will:
-
be directed by the person
-
work with the family
-
learn about the situation of concern
-
lead meetings to make a safeguarding plan.

An Advocate can work with a person at the same time as a safeguarding coordinator.
What it costs

Safeguarding does not cost any money. It is free.

It is available nationwide.
